Does every Pharmacy accept RxScribbler Prescriptions?
 
Prescriptions can be printed, emailed or faxed. Pharmacies will almost always accept faxed prescriptions. When a prescription is sent to a pharmacy, your contact information is made available to the pharmacist to confirm delivery.
 
What do I need to fax a prescription?
 
You must have a fax service, such as Myfax, and an internet connection.
 
How do I set up pharmacies in my RxScribbler application?
 
When registering a pharmacy in your application, you need to input the pharmacy's fax number. When the prescription is sent, the chose pharmacy page is displayed with the patient's default pharmacy listed, chose a different one or hit Send, it gets sent to the fax number you input through your fax service.
 
What if I don't have a Tablet PC or UMPC with wireless?
 
If you do not have a mobile computer you can use any computer or laptop with RxScribbler installed and an internet connection. Prescriptions can also be printed.
 
How secure is the wireless transmission of prescriptions?
 
The prescription is more secure than paper in your office as it is sent as indecipherable electronic bits to anyone who is outside of those in your office permitted to access RxScribbler. Your whole office network must be secured with at least a WEP key. Use a HIPAA compliant fax service such as MyFax.
 
How do I get my signature to print on the fax?
 
Chose add signature before sending. The configuration allows you to set the default as add or do not include. If you send the prescription electronically you are not required to have a signature on the fax. In fact in some states the inclusion of a signature would invalidate the prescription.
 
Must I sign each printed prescription manually?
 
This is somewhat of a gray area. RxScribbler uses triple authentication (user name, password and identifier) Only double authentication is required. Most laws state that an electronic signature is acceptable if there is a double authentication to use it. The key law is that a pharmacist is under an obligation to confirm the prescription is valid. As a result, regardless of what the law allows, pharmacists often insist on a manual signature. Many doctors prefer to sign the prescription manually.
 
Can I import my patient demographic data from my practice management system (PMS) into RxScribbler?
 
Yes, if your PMS can export a file as a text delimited file. Use the RxScribbler importer with this file. For practices or hospitals with HL7 interfaces to their patient management systems we can process new patients or patient updates via an HL7 interface. Cost for this is extra but nominal.
 
How will I receive my quarterly updates?
 
Updates will be available quarterly on the RxScribbler website. You will be notified by mail when they are available. You may also opt for updates to be sent by CD for an extra fee.
 
What will happen after my first year subscription is up?
 
After your year has expired, you will need to sign up for a quarterly subscription for the drug database updates. You can continue using your software without the updates. However, this is not advisable since drug information does change.
 
How do I know the information contained in RxScribbler is accurate?
 
RxScribbler uses the complete National Drug Codes list from the FDA plus licenses the drug interaction engine with drug information from Scholtz Medical, a company that has been supplying this information for over twenty years and supplies several national and international electronic medical record (EMR) companies. The final responsibility of any drug prescribed always rests with the provider.
